Heavy Shake Metal Roofing
Heavy Shake recreates the bold, rugged appearance of traditional heavy-cut cedar shakes while delivering the lasting advantages of an engineered metal roofing system. Its deeply textured, dimensional profile provides the natural character and substantial appearance of wood shake roofing without the splitting, rotting and ongoing maintenance associated with natural cedar.
Like RARE Manufacturing’s European Tile profile, Heavy Shake is installed over a 2 x 2 batten system. This raised installation method promotes proper ventilation beneath the roofing panels and allows the system to be installed over many existing roofs, subject to roof condition and applicable local building codes.
Designed for Steep-Sloped Roofs
Heavy Shake panels are installed on 12.5-inch centres, making the system an excellent choice for steep-sloped and non-walkable roof areas, including slopes greater than 36.5°. The minimum required roof slope is 3:12, or approximately 14°.
The roofing system is installed from the ridge down toward the eave. This installation method provides easier access to individual panels, allowing a damaged panel to be replaced without unnecessarily disturbing large sections of the surrounding roof. This can be especially valuable if isolated damage is caused by falling branches or other debris.
