Is Your Home Ready for the Future of Solar Roofing?

Solar Power Is on the Rise

Solar power is growing in popularity every day—and for good reason. It offers clean energy, potential cost savings, and a way to reduce your environmental footprint.

The Usual Approach vs. the RARE Way
When it comes to solar panels, there’s no shortage of choices. Most companies simply mount solar panels on top of an existing roof. At RARE, we’ve taken a different path—one that’s taken years of trial and error to perfect.

Our Integrated Solar Roofing Panels
We’ve developed solar panels that integrate directly into our standard Ironwood shake roofing system, creating a seamless, watertight surface that’s both durable and visually appealing. They’ve been rigorously UL tested and approved, proving they can stand up to the elements for years to come.

Before You Decide on Solar
Before you determine if solar is right for your home, it’s important to understand a few key factors that will affect performance and value:

    • Sun exposure & roof orientation – The direction, slope, and shading on your roof play a big role in how much energy your system will generate.

    • Roof material, condition & structural integrity – Some roofs are ready for solar installation as-is, while others may need upgrades first.

    • Home energy usage & savings potential – Your electricity needs and local utility rates will determine how quickly you see a return on your investment.

Key Factors:

Sun exposure & roof orientation

North-facing roofs receive less direct sunlight, making them less efficient for solar production. In contrast, south-facing roofs with slopes between 15°–45° capture the most sunlight throughout the day, providing optimal performance.

East- and west-facing orientations can still work, though they typically produce less energy. It’s also important to assess shading from trees, chimneys, or nearby buildings, as even partial shade can significantly reduce output.

Would RARE solar panels work on your roof?

To get the most out of our RARE solar panels, your roof should offer enough space for optimal performance. Here are a few key factors to consider:

    • Roof Type: New or existing Ironwood shake roofs are ideal, as they help maintain a watertight seal when panels are installed.

    • Roof Shape: Compared to larger solar panels that require wide, uninterrupted roof sections, the Ironwood e-Panel’s compact design makes it ideal for maximizing solar coverage—even in tight or complex roof areas.

Home Energy Usage & Savings Potential

According to an Energynow article you should check the average rate your utility charges for electricity. The higher the rate, the more potential savings will accrue as higher energy consumption often means better ROI.
